Team Ninja has confirmed that Nioh 2 will be released on March 13th, 2020 and has the studio has released a new trailer and details about the open beta. This announcement comes in the wake of confirmation that Nioh would be one of November’s PS Plus titles, alongside Outlast 2, Team Ninja deemed now was the time to confirm the release date as Nioh 2 is now different enough from its predecessor, enough “genuine evolution”.
The open beta trial will begin November 1st and will last until November 10th. The first place players will go is the Interim, a safe area where players can practice with weapons and choose which ones you want to wield. The first stage of Nioh 2 where players will come face to face with danger is called Sunomata which is based on the castle of the same name. Those who beat the stage will be rewarded with The Mark of the Demon Slayer which in turn will unlock the Kamaitachi Helmet in the full game.
Pre-orders are now live with all those doing so getting the Demon Horde armour set, Sudama Netsuke charm, a Nioh 2 Theme, and a Nioh 2 PSN avatar set for PS4. Those who get the Digital Deluxe version will get the season pass, demon horde weapons, and Kodama Netsuke charm. The physical Special Edition includes the artbook, steel book case, and the season pass.
Nioh 2 was confirmed back in 2018 by Koei Tecmo, but it wasn’t until earlier this year that information about the game was ramped up. In May there was a closed alpha test which lasted just over a week. Then a few weeks ago we got details about the character who will be half-human, half Yokai which comes in handy as they’ll be travelling to the realm of the Yokai and fighting them on their home turf.
Traversing between the human and Yokai worlds. In the latter, the human form is weak due to the harshness of the world, while the Yokai form flourishes. One of the weapons players will be equipped with are hatchets which can be used as throwing weapons if an enemy doesn’t want to get close. Two Yokai have also been announced and they are Nure-onna who paralyzes anyone who is caught in her eye beams, and Enenra who is a being of fire that can intimidate anyone.
All sounds pretty interesting, no? It should make for a good change of pace from the original.
