Nioh 2 protagonist is half human, half Yokai and you can have a look at them here

At E3 2018 Team Ninja confirmed it was working on Nioh 2 with an announcement trailer. Following that some players were invited to take part in the Nioh 2 closed alpha, though due to strict NDAs no information was forthcoming. 50,000 people took part in that and 18,000 responded with feedback according to Team Ninja. Now Team Ninja has shown off the first look at the new protagonist of the series who will be half human and half Yokai, giving the character access to demon powers. You can see that visualised below as half the character has the look of a samurai while the other half has the look of a demon.

The protagonist of Nioh 2 will be traversing between the human and Yokai worlds. In the latter, the human form is weak due to the harshness of the world, while the Yokai form flourishes. One of the weapons players will be equipped with are hatchets which can be used as throwing weapons if an enemy doesn’t want to get close. Two Yokai have also been announced and they are Nure-onna who paralyzes anyone who is caught in her eye beams, and Enenra who is a being of fire that can intimidate anyone. Their artwork can be seen in the gallery below.

Nioh 2 will be present at Tokyo Game Show where a new gameplay demo will be shown. If you haven’t played the original Nioh you can see what Dave thought of it:

Do not dismiss Nioh as just another knockoff; it’s so much more than that. By taking some inspiration from others, Team Ninja do prove with a rich combat system and solid foundation that they have the ability to surprise and innovate. The vast majority of the game is a pleasure to play, despite the fact that death is around every corner.  There’s a lot I’ve not even touched upon in this review, simply because it’s better experienced than told. For Koei Tecmo at least, all the effort was well worth it.
