The Xbox Live Games with Gold for December have been announced, with the usual selection of two Xbox One games and a pair of backward compatible Xbox 360 games to check out. Brace yourself for a Christmas filled with oohs and aahs, followed by running and um, screaming…
That’s right, Frontier Developments’ dino zoo builder Jurassic World Evolution is a part of December’s Games with Gold, and it’s joined by Insane Robots as the second Xbox One game. Meanwhile, you’ll be able to start the month with Toy Story 3 and finish it with Castlevania: Lord of Shadows – Mirror of Fate HD.
As usual, they’re staggered throughout the month, their dates of availability as follows:
- Insane Robots – 1st to 31st December
- Jurassic World Evolution – 16th December to 15th January
- Toy Story 3 – 1st to 15th January
- Castlevania: Lord of Shadows – Mirror of Fate HD – 16th to 31st December
Also, don’t forget that you can currently pick up the following:
- Sherlock Holmes: The Devil’s Daughter – until 30th November
- The Final Station – until15th December
- Joy Ride Turbo – until 30th November
Jurassic World is the clear highlight through all of this, and its inclusion in GwG actually comes hot on the heels of the announcement of the Return to Jurassic Park DLC, also due out in December. We got to go hands on with it last week. Check out the full preview here, where I said “Thematically, Return to Jurassic Park is absolutely spot on, and from our hour or two with the DLC, a lovely dive into what Jurassic Park could have been.”
You can also go and check out our 8/10 review of the full game, where Dom said, “The dinosaurs look fantastic, the park building is easy and coherent, and the ensuing chaos when it goes a little bit off the rails can be frantic and enthralling.”
Who’s winning Decembers free games battle? Is it PlayStation Plus? Maybe it’s Google Stadia Pro? Or could it be Xbox Live’s Games with Gold? Let us know in the comments.

Clearly GwG wins, as is the case most months.

And which planet are you on? Sherlock Holmes and The Final Station last month? The what? Friday 13th – a dead game because devs lost the license over a year ago – and Tenbo the elephant the month before?? Inside & Big Crown? NHL 19 and Rivals of Aether?
You’re hard pushed to even recognise some of the games they give away.
Agree with you this month tho, although only because everyone has Titanfall 2 anyway.
