BT becomes Google Stadia’s first European distribution partner

BT has announced it is partnering with Google to become the first European distribution partner of Stadia. As part of this partnership, BT is running a promotion of its broadband packages with those who sign up for either BT’s Superfast Fibre 2, Ultrafast Fibre 100 or Ultrafast Fibre 250 having the option to receive a Stadia Premiere edition. That edition includes a Chromecast Ultra, Stadia controller, and three months of Stadia pro. That offer runs until January 30th and then new offers will go live on February 7th that incorporate the Stadia streaming service.

As part of the partnership BT will be running adverts across TV, print outlets, and online to highlight Stadia.

BT’s Marc Allera, CEO of BT’s Consumer Division said:

“We continually look to provide our customers with the most exciting products and experiences, and by partnering with Google on Stadia, we’re able to help them push the limits of gaming. We’re also investing in the UK’s fastest 4G, 5G and fibre networks, so our superfast home broadband service is the perfect accompaniment for those wanting to make the most from this innovative streaming gaming platform”.

Stadia is a wonderful streaming tech demo that gives us an idea of the patch-free, download-free future we could be living in, but little more. For anyone beyond those who simply must try out the newest piece of technology, it’s probably worth waiting for 2020 to really see how Google’s vision of our gaming future pans out.
