Sonic the Hedgehog director was worried about fan reaction to Sonic 2.0

Jeff Fowler, director of the new Sonic the Hedgehog movie, has revealed that he was worried about the fans reaction to the redesigned filmic hedgehog. That is understandable considering just how savagely the original design was attacked, so much so the film was delayed for three months as the blue spiky one had a makeover.

“I think it had been about five months that had passed since the first trailer. We had worked very hard on our updates to the character. It was definitely a little bit of like, ‘Oh man, what happens if they don’t like this?'” explained Fowler to Digital Spy. “But really, everyone that saw it internally as I was working on the film, just responded so positively. It really felt like, once we shared it with the fans, they would really embrace it and be excited about it.

“Fortunately, any anxiety I had the night before passed really quickly once it was released. Because, yeah, it was such an incredible feeling to see Sonic 2.0 get embraced the way it was.”

Puma has released a new collaboration collection that has been inspired by SEGA’s mascot Sonic. The collection consists of specially branded PUMA RS-X3’s which are available in either a yellow, blue, and white palette or red and black. If you fancy picking up an adult size they won’t be cheap, coming in at £106.

There are also options for the youth which are cheaper and there are a lot more design variations. There are also some t-shirts, hoodies, backpacks, and caps available too. You can check out the full Puma X Sonic collection here.

Sonic the Hedgehog is out this Friday and includes Fluffy and Baby Sonic and we should have a review up around lunchtime (assuming I can drag myself in to a cinema earlier enough).
