Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition is coming to Switch on 29th May, Nintendo confirmed today, taking the fan-favourite Wii JRPG and updating it for Nintendo’s modern portable. It’s not just a straight port, but comes with a bunch of tweaks and changes to improve the overall experience, as well as bringing a new epilogue story for fans to enjoy.
Branded as the Definitive Edition, the game has been updated with improved battle HUD and menu screens that are easier to use, some of the music has been remastered or remixed, and a new epilogue story – Xenoblade Chronicles: Future Connected – has been added.
In addition to digital eShop and regular physical editions, the game will also receive a Collector’s Set that includes a 250 page art book, SteelBook case, poster and a vinyl with the Monado printed on the sleeve.
The port was announced back in September, with Monolith Soft stepping back in time from their work on the numbered sequel Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and its Torna – The Golden Country standalone expansion. Those were both well received, but it’s really the original Xenoblade Chronicles that has captured the hearts of JRPG fans. Its characters are arguably the most iconic of the Chronicles series, with Shulk being immortalised in amiibo form and quickly being roped into the Super Smash Bros. line up.
