Red Dead Online update gives free Gold Bars, double XP

Rockstar Games have revealed their latest weekly update for multiplayer cowboy sim, Red Dead Online.

The Grand Theft Auto developer is pumping RDO with new challenges, item discounts, and other bonuses including a free stash of Gold Bars.

On top of that, Rockstar is dishing out double XP from now until April 14th for matches played in any Showdown Series, Showdown Mode, or Race.

It’s an ideal time to get back in the saddle and start ranking up your online character. Any player who logs in before April 14th will also receive 5 free Gold Bars (Red Dead Online’s premium currency).

Those willing to put in a little graft can earn a hamper of rewards for logging into Red Dead Online and completing Daily Challenges. Complete at least one Daily Challenge three days in a row and you’ll earn a bunch of special gifts including 10 Special Health Cures, 10 Special Miracle Tonics, 10 Special Snake Oils, and 20 Incendiary Buckshot.

You may also want to spend this time outfitting your virtual cowboy with new weapons and attire. Rockstar are running multiple discounts this week that include 40% off Rifles, Pistols, and Pamphlets, with 50% off Ponchos, Shirts and all items in the Wilderness Outfitters store (Butcher’s Table not included). There is also 70% off Off-hand Holsters, Gun Belts, Draft Horses, War Horses, Pants, and Gloves.

Red Dead Online went live shortly after the launch of Red Dead Redemption 2. While it might not boast the same install base or money-making potential as GTA Online, Rockstar have continued to support it with new content. Recently, they added “Specialist Roles” allowing players to become Bounty Hunters, Traders, Collectors, and Moonshiners.

Here’s what Ade had to say about Red Dead Redemption at launch, scoring the game a 10/10:

The hype being created for Red Dead Redemption 2 and the expectations of the passionate fan-base made a part of me believe that Rockstar Games could never deliver on all of their many promises. They did, and then some. From the feeling of a realistic living world they’ve created to the emotional bonds you build, Red Dead Redemption 2 is the video game experience of this generation.
