Last week, during the Xbox Series X game showcase one of the games that was announced was The Ascent, a single player and co-op action RPG. Unlike most of the games shown in the showcase there was some actual gameplay shown of The Ascent, and IGN have put up even more gameplay. Twelve whole minutes in fact. The footage shows a lot of combat which appears fast paced but also pretty tactical. The Ascent looks like it could be a pretty intense game. Have a watch for yourselves.
Here is the official description of The Ascent:
The Ascent is a solo and co-op action RPG set in a cyberpunk world. Mega-corporation The Ascent Group, that owns everyone including yourself, has just collapsed. Can you survive without it? The survival of your district is threatened: rival corporations are trying to force appropriation and crime syndicates are looking to boost their black-market augmentation trade. You must take up arms to stop them from seizing control and embark on a new mission to find out what started it all.
The Ascent is set to be released for Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC. While The Ascent did have gameplay shown during Xbox Series X gameplay showcase a lot of other games really did not, including Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla. That led to a lot of criticism about the event as a whole which led to Aaron Greenberg releasing a short statement:
Had we not said anything & just shown May Inside Xbox show like we did last month, I suspect reactions might have been different. Clearly we set some wrong expectations & that’s on us. We appreciate all the feedback & can assure you we will take it all in & learn as a team.
