Activision were having server problems, COD Warzone connection issues resolved [Updated]

Update: The issues have now been resolved.

It appears that Activision are having server problems which means players cannot connect to Call of Duty: Warzone and, possibly, other games. The officially acknowledged the problem a few minutes ago but judging by the tweets in response there have been problems for a good while before.

As you can see in the tweet below, the problem seems to have existed for at least twelve hours.

Activision has another runaway success on its hands with the free to play battle royale game Call of Duty: Warzone which has passed the 60 million registered players limit. In its first day alone Call of Duty: Warzone had hit six million players, so in the space of approximately seven weeks that number has increased by ten times the amount. It may be that most of the world being in lockdown due to COVID-19 has helped the game reach this kind of number in a relatively short space of time. Then again, Apex Legends managed to get 50 million players in its first month, so maybe this is not so surprising.

When it comes to Call of Duty: Warzone and cheaters, Activision are taking no prisoners. The publisher issued an update via the official Activision blog underlining their zero tolerance policy against those using cheats in for popular battle royale shooter.

In a post titled “Cheaters not welcomed in Call of Duty: Warzone” they claim that more than 50,000 accounts have already been perma-banned since the game’s release.

Activision will remain vigilant and monitor Warzone data 24/7 to identify the use of aimbots, wallhacks, and other cheats, swiftly carrying out investigations and swinging the ban hammer where necessary.

This kind of anti-cheating programme is hardly unique though it’s not often we see publishers reporting these kinds of numbers publicly. It stands as a deterrent to those looking to spoil the game for others while giving other players some reassurance that Activision is keeping a watchful eye on cheaters.
