Get Borderlands: The Handsome Collection for free on the Epic Games Store this week

Another Thursday, another big budget freebie from the Epic Games Store, with the company dropping a rather dashing duo of Gearbox games in our laps.

That’s right, from today until 4PM BST on 4th June, you’ll be able to grab the two game Borderlands: The Handsome Collection for free on the Epic Games Store.

You can snag the bundle from the following link:

Grabbing a free game from Epic Games Store is as simple as setting up a user account and then snagging the freebies when they’re available, though Epic have recently introduced a new policy that you must activate 2 Factor Authentication on your account in order to claim them.

Borderlands: The Handsome Collection was released in 2015, bundling together Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel for the then fresh-faced PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles. For a long time that was the most recent Borderlands release, until Borderlands 3 arrived last year.

To celebrate the upcoming game, and the franchise’s tenth anniversary, Gearbox returned to The Handsome Collection, sprucing up both games with Ultra HD texture packs for modern PCs, the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X to take advantage of.

They also then surprised people at last year’s E3 with a free new DLC expansion for Borderlands 2. Commander Lilith & The Fight for Sanctuary was set shortly after the main campaign, helping to bridge the gap to the sequel.

We gave Borderlands 2 a rousing review and a 9/10 score:

“Borderlands 2 is a joyful experience, full of humour and character. It manages to walk the fine line between silly base humour and a more intelligent wit too, which is something almost unique in videogames. With a narrative that expands on the original storyline in every conceivable way and so many ways to play, different characters to build and so much cooperative fun to be had, it’s hard to see a downside.”

While we weren’t quite so enamoured with The Pre-Sequel, developed by 2K Australia and tweaking the formula, but again, still gave it a great 8/10 score:

“To say that Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is nothing more than Borderlands 2 on the moon would be a disservice to the hard work that the developers have put in, and the new features that are definitely noticable. It’s not better than that game, but it’s pretty much essential for anyone seeking out more Borderlands, or someone eager to learn more about the lore of the universe. The Pre-Sequel is a superb action RPG which anyone can jump into, with tons of guns and plenty of fun to be found.”

Epic Games are giving away big budget games like this through their Mega Sale, running until 11th June. The Mega Sale isn’t just cutting the price of a selection of titles available on the store, it’s also seeing Epic literally throw money at punters, offering a £10 coupon to use on any games worth £13.99 or more. Doing so will then gift you another £10 coupon, then another, and then another. It’s a frankly ridiculous promotion.

To get the coupon, either follow the below link, or grab one of the free games that Epic is offering, which will automatically apply the coupon to your account.
