8 hours and 46 minutes in support of Black Lives Matter

While video games are often an escape from the worries and stresses of our day to day lives, a way for us to relax and put everything else to one side. Sometimes world events are simply too important to ignore and we have to put down our gamepads and stand up in whatever way we can for what is right.

From midday today we will fall silent for 8 hours and 46 minutes in tribute to George Floyd and to show our support for the Black Lives Matter protests in America and around the world.

We will also be donating today’s advertising revenue to Black Visions Collective in the US and the Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust in the UK. If you wish to donate, there are many other charities and organisations working in different areas around the world, including Black Lives Matter, the American Civil Liberties Union, The Bail Project, Color of Change, George Floyd Memorial Fund, the Minnesota Freedom Fund, the National Police Accountability Project and more.

Individually these actions are small in the face of the blight on humanity that racism continues to be, but through our silence we want to add support to those calling for reform to combat police brutality and justice for all its victims, both in the US and closer to home.

Update 8:46PM – It’s 8:46 PM, the symbolic time after which we had originally intended to resume posting stories on TheSixthAxis. However, having seen how others are observing Black Out Tuesday, we’ve decided not to resume until tomorrow.
