PS Plus July line up includes NBA 2K20, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and a bonus third game

Sony has confirmed the line up for July’s PS Plus offerings, and those games are NBA 2K20, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Erica as a bonus third game. The games will be available from July 7th until August 3rd. Today, also marks the 10th anniversary since PS Plus first started back in 2010. To celebrate that anniversary a free theme will be given away for a limited time. There will also be free online multiplayer for those without Plus on July 4th and 5th.  Leaving the rotation when the subscription refreshes will be Call of Duty: WWII and Star Wars Battlefront 2.

In our review for Rise of the Tomb Raider from 2015, Dave wrote:

Rise of the Tomb Raider is an action-packed tour-de-force that, while derivative at times, is a fantastic romp from beginning to end. This sequel learns some of the lessons of its predecessor by making the game more like a recognisable Tomb Raider game, while at the same time implementing some new features and impressive visual design. While not quite the globetrotting adventure some were hoping for, Rise of the Tomb Raider is well worth playing.

We reviewed NBA 2K20 but the Switch version and not the PS4 version. Nevertheless, Dom wrote:

For Switch-owning sports fans there’s nothing that comes close to NBA 2K20. Boasting great visuals, stellar gameplay and a feature-rich range of play types, there’s something for everyone, and while VC is still a ‘feature’ that we’d rather didn’t have a place in modern sports titles, it’s been balanced back in the favour of actual gameplay.
There has been no review for Erica which is an FMV Playlink title, so you will need your phones to play it.

From the heady days of the Mega Drive up until the modern day gaming has been my main hobby. I'll give almost any game a go.

  1. Well, that’s disappointing for the 10th anniversary.

It’s the usual “here’s a nice AAA title anyone interested in will have already played” thing with Tomb Raider. And basketball for the 3rd time.

Still, Erica looks interesting. (And doesn’t need a phone. That bit’s optional)

    • Erica is boring. Bought a few of these types after buying LateShift and The Bunker. Those would have been far better choices if they stuck to the theme, Erica goes for a spooky horror thing, its very poorly acted and i feel the blue screen stuff is done poorly. The sets are good but nowhere near the the scope and well shot stuff from Wales Interactive

      • On the other hand, it’s not a Tomb Raider game I played (and enjoyed) years ago, or another bloody sportsball game.

I agree about the Wales Interactive games though. They seem ideal for PS+ and I’m sure not enough people have played them. I’d love to see loads of people playing and getting confused by Doctor Dekker.

      • @MrYd, I’ve actually popped others from Wales Interactive on my wishlist. They definitely need a shout on PS+. They’re niche perhaps, but as they are putting Erica on it might open up the door for better titles in the genre.

    • In some ways, it’s cool to have a niche game to try, but it should be backed up by a more recent AAA title that more people would be happy with.
