Some Danganronpa games to be delisted from PS Store this September

NIS America have announced that the cult classic visual novel series Danganronpa will be delisted from the PlayStation Store later this year, no longer being available for purchase. The delisting will be staggered out across the end of August and through September.

If you want any of the affected games on PS Vita or PS4, you’ll have to pick them up pretty soon!

They write on the blog:

“We want to thank all of our Ultimate Fans who have joined us for many exciting years of mysteries, deadly puzzles, and unforgettable characters. Puhuhuhu!”

The dates at which the games will be removed are:

Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girl (PS Vita) 31/08/20
Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc (PS Vita) 04/09/20
Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair (PS Vita) 04/09/20
Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony (PS Vita) 25/09/20
Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony (PS4â„¢) 25/09/20

It’s a rather unexpected announcement, and oddly specific about which games are being removed.

For example, Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girl for PS Vita is disappearing, but the game will still be available for PS4. The first two games on PS Vita are going away, but the PS4 combo release will still be available, and it’s quite bizarre that Danganronpa V3, the most recent game in the series, is affected just three years after its release.

The games are well worth playing for fans of anime visual novels and bizarre murder mysteries. In our Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony review, Miguel wrote:

“I’ve been excited for and anticipating Danganronpa V3 for a long time, and after playing it,  I can say it was absolutely worth it. Danganronpa V3 is an impressive culmination of nearly 8 years of twists, turns, heart-breaks, and murders, and is an amazing entry in a consistently well-written and addictive franchise.”

All of these games are still available on Steam and the main trilogy are also out on iOS and Android, if you’re thinking of picking them up on a different platform.

  1. The Steam versions are published by Spike Chunsoft themselves, not NIS.

And their tweet says “no longer be available for purchase on PSN through NIS America”. Those last 3 words seem important. Not just no longer available for purchase, but no longer available for purchase from the current publisher.

So the publishing deal has ended, and they may or may not reappear soon after with a different publisher?

And anyone that owns them already will still be able to download them, even if it gets a bit harder to download them again because the store and it’s download list is a complete mess. At least they sorted that out with the PS4 and the library you can actually search.

    • Yeah, it’ll be a licensing thing. It’s just strange because Danganronpa 1/2 Reload and Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls for PS4 are published by NIS America and are not currently being delisted, despite predating Danganronpa V3.
