Halo Infinite box art revealed, and fans are already finding gameplay clues

With less than 24 hours to go before the big Halo Infinite gameplay reveal at the Xbox Series X games showcase, 343 Industries have shown off the artwork that will be on the box for the game at release later this year.

Now before you say “But that’s a gif! You can’t do gifs on a game box!” this is the box art in cinemagraph form. 343 have got your back if you’d like to have the imagery in static form to act as a wallpaper, with a range of different aspect ratios and sizes to be found on the Halo Waypoint forums.

Now, if you’re a fan of the series, it will take you all of about 3 seconds to realise that this is a deep homage to the cover art of the original game, with Master Chief facing the camera with the Halo ring stretch up in the background.

The game is billed as being a return to the series’ roots, and this is just another indicator that 343 are trying to pander to their fans, to a certain degree. Fans have spotted what looks like a Brute reflected in his visor (with ray tracing?) which ties in with the Banished being a primary antagonist in the game, a destroyed Wasp in the background, and what looks like a grappling hook attachment on his forearm. Could we see some kind of extended movement options?

Recent rumours have suggested that the game will be a “one shot” story, similar to the 2018 God of War. That is to say that it will be one continuous experience with no cuts or breaks. That would be a fascinating choice in its own right, but so too is the decision to feature the Banished. How it ties into the story of Halo 4 and Halo 5 isn’t known, but the game will revert to only following Master Chief and not the character hopping storyline of the last game.

Halo Infinite was announced back at E3 2018, before being confirmed at E3 2019 to be an Xbox Series X (then codenamed Project Scarlett) launch title and cross-generational release, and also coming to PC. The game is built in a new Slipspace engine, created specifically for the title. It will also feature split-screen co-op once more.

It’s not long before we’ll get to see more, with the Xbox Series X game showcase kicking off at 5PM UK time tomorrow afternoon.
