While we wait for Sony to announced official variations of the PS5’s colour scheme third party companies are looking to get in on the market and create alternative designs for the console. Dbrand is one company offering different skins you can add to the PS5 to give it a unique look, but it is not the only one. London based Truly Exquisite is getting into the market and the company is going a step further. Instead of skins it will be offering 24 karat gold plated PS5s, along with an 18k Rose Gold version, and a Platinum version. No price has been given yet, but you can see the gold renders below.
Sony has stated it will talk about alternative colours for the console and DualSense at some point, but we do not know when that will be. It is not known if the alternative design will be available at launch, but Sony are scheduled to have another PlayStation 5 event sometime in August.
Sony has doubled the amount of PlayStation 5 consoles it intends to produce in the coming months and have also increased the number of DualSense controllers in production. The company had previously said it was aiming for 5-6 million consoles by March 2021, and that has now increased to 10 million. However, there may still be shortages of the console as they are manufactured in China and delivered across the world via shipping containers which can take a very long time to reach their destination.
“Sony began PS5 mass production in June and, under the latest plan, expects to assemble 5 million units by the end of September and another 5 million between October and December,” report Bloomberg. “A large portion of the latter tranche would turn into stock for 2021 due to the logistical delay. Sony could try to use air cargo for faster delivery, as it did in 2013 around the launch of the PlayStation 4, though airlines are running vastly reduced schedules due to Covid-19 and Sony’s ability to reserve flights would be limited.”

After I stole that golden loo from Blenheim Palace with the kids a while back, this might go nicely with it… ;-)
