Developer Phoenix Labs have unleashed their newest patch for Monster Hunter rival, Dauntless. The Behemoth-slaying online RPG has received a number of major upgrades, reworking core parts of the game.
The Clear Skies update is now available to download across all available platforms including PC (via the Epic Games Store) and Nintendo Switch, as well as PlayStation 4 and Xbox One where the install file will be labelled as Dauntless version 1.33.
So what does the Clear Skies update bring to Dauntless? Well, there are three major parts including a complete redesign of Ramsgate, the central hub world where players socialise, interact with NPCs, and upgrade their gear:
“The Ramsgate redesign showcases a completely new layout for the hub city, and features numerous points of interest and new structures housing Ramsgate’s denizens. The city now offers unique soundscapes for a variety of areas and NPCs, creating a more immersive Ramsgate experience. Players can also populate their journals by interacting with characters and objects to unlock lore about the Shattered Isles and its inhabitants. The city also now includes a racing mini-game, so players can challenge their friends to a footrace across the city.”
The second part of this major Dauntless update is the Sword weapon redesign. Phoenix Labs have changed some fundamental attributes including the core combos as well its unique weapon mechanics. Attacks will now generate Valour which can, in turn, feed into more powerful combos as well as charging special attacks.
There’s also a new Clear Skies Hunt Pass complete with 50 tiers loaded with a variety of unlockable items.
Dauntless continues to go from strength to strength, this new update proving that Phoenix Lab are also willing to go back and rework huge fundamental chunks of the original game in order to keep their RPG feeling fresh.
We recently jumped back into Dauntless for our 2020 review, scoring it a solid 8/10:
Although hardly original in its premise, Dauntless offers an extremely fun and accessible take on the monster-hunting roleplaying game. It wastes no time in throwing you straight into the action and while easy to pick up there’s plenty of depth there for fans of the genre. What’s more Dauntless is completely free to play, gracefully sidestepping those annoying monetisation pitfalls we’re so used to seeing.
