Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch

The rather obvious Twitter stunt yesterday in which Tony Hawk asked Crash Bandicoot for help to get his games on next gen and Switch has, unsurprisingly, been followed with the announcement of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 editions for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch.

The PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions will be released on March 26th, boasting 120 FPS at 1080p or native 4K at 60 FPS, spatial audio and ‘high-fidelity atmospherics. “This unique graphical feature will allow players to enjoy the experience of sharper dynamic shadows, reflections and lens flares, as well as enhanced skater textures and more on next-gen consoles,” say Activision.

Update: The Nintendo Switch release will simply be sometime in 2021.

As with Call of Duty if you already own the base game (digital version) on PS4 or Xbox One you will not be getting a free upgrade and will have to pay $10 for the privilege, if you bought the digital deluxe version you do get it for free. If you do shell out the extra cash you do get some freebies, the upgrade includes access to the secret skater Ripper (a.k.a. the infamous Powell-Peralta mascot), retro gear for Create-A-Skater mode, and retro skins for Tony Hawk, Steve Caballero and Rodney Mullen.

Activision Blizzard have announced that Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 is the fastest selling game in the THPS series.

The recently released remake, which crams in both Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater and its sequel, has already heelflipped its way past the one million copies milestone.

Once again Activision have been rewarded for dipping into their back catalogue and reanimating older games. Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy was a huge success for the publisher, selling 2.5 million copies in three months, more than tripling that just seven months later.

Thomas was overjoyed to revisit both games in his review of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2, awarding it a 10/10. Here’s what he had to say:

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+ 2 is a labour of love and an ode to the series’ glory days. Every inch of the game has been perfectly restored and updated for modern consoles and it’s an absolute delight to play from start to finish. This is a must-buy for skateboarders, gamers and everyone else in between.

  1. Switch version is ‘coming soon’, not 26th March like PS5/Xbox Series X.

  2. It’s a disgusting skint that people who have purchased the disc version don’t get the upgrade but still paid the same 39.99, what a con on a franchise that over the years has earned the company more money than they ever thought.
