Nintendo and Niantic have announced that they have partnered to create a new augmented reality game based on the Pikmin franchise. The two have already worked together to create Pokémon Go which has had worldwide popularity since it’s launch. The Pikmin game will be similar to Pokémon Go as it will encourage people to walk around.
John Hanke, CEO of Niantic, said:
“As we continue to expand our games portfolio, it was a natural next step to team up with Nintendo. We’re looking forward to shaping the future of AR together, bringing Nintendo’s beloved game characters to life for mobile game players around the world.”
Shigeru Miyamoto, Representative Director, Fellow, Nintendo, said
“Niantic’s AR technology has made it possible for us to experience the world as if Pikmin are secretly living all around us. Based on the theme of making walking fun, our mission is to provide people a new experience that’s different from traditional games. We hope that the Pikmin and this app will become a partner in your life.”
The last Pikmin game to release was Pikmin 3 Deluxe Edition, which was a port of Pikmin 3 from the Wii U. In our review for Pikmin 3 Deluxe Edition, Jim wrote:
