inXile Entertainment has announced that the first narrative expansion for Wasteland 3: The Battle of Steeltown will be out on 3rd June 2021. The DLC will be available across PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, and priced at $13.99.
The Battle of Steeltown will slot into the core game of Wasteland 3, adding in alongside the main game’s story with new locations, quests, gear and new twists to the game’s combat. Prepare for some fraught battles against new robotic enemies, and keep an eye out for telegraphed attacks, stacked status effects, elemental shields and non-lethal weapons.
Steeltown has a pivotal role in the power balance of Colorado, as the manufacturing hub behind the Patriarch’s empire, but things have been going wrong. Shipments are late, the shipments are wrong, and items are going missing, and the Patriarch has tasked you and the Rangers to go and investigate.
The content is designed to fit into both new and current playthroughs – you simply need to have not finished the game – and will give a level-appropriate challenge, with characters that adapt to your decisions made thus far. However, inXile’s community manager has teased on Reddit that they “still have some announcements ahead of the DLC drop that may yet make you want to restart with a fresh playthrough. Stay tuned!” Here’s hoping for Xbox Series X|S support!
Wasteland 3 launched last August to plenty of praise (though there were a few technical issues that inXile have since been working to buff out). Coming from inXile Entertainment, it’s the last cross-platform game the studio was working on prior to their acquisition by Microsoft in 2018. Wasteland 3 was signed to a publishing deal Deep Silver, though, and so has released across PS4, Xbox One and PC, with ongoing support and content also being cross-platform. The Battle of Steeltown is the first of two planned expansion.
In our Wasteland 3 review, Tom wrote:
Wasteland 3 is a delight to experience with some of the most engaging RPG mechanics in the series to date. Its dense and detailed world is only outshone by the character and its cast of vibrant and wacky characters, who are all brought to life by the introduction of voiced dialogue. If you’re a fan of RPGs, isometric-adventure games or turn-based combat, Wasteland 3 is an absolute must.
