There’s been quite a lot of fuss over the lack of a save game feature in Returnal and it appears there’s another issue related to it. Returnal will be patched tomorrow, May 5th at 7pm GMT and if you have auto updates turned on on your PlayStation 5 – and why wouldn’t you – then it may break any current run of the game you are in.
PSA: #Returnal patch and patch notes will go live tomorrow (May 5) at noon PST, 7pm GMT.
Set your #PS5 auto-update off to keep your run.

As you cannot save the game you can only put the PS5 in to rest mode to pause the game and resume at a later date. If you have auto updates turned on, the PS5 will reset the game and you will lose your progress. While that would happen with any game you that you happen to have running in rest mode almost every other game has auto saves so you wouldn’t lose much progress.
Housemarque have been listening to players who have been asking for a save system and have tweeted “We hear the community and we love you all. Nothing to announce now, but keep playing and enjoying the challenge as you can!”
We gave Returnal a stonking 9/10 in our review, here’s what Jim had to say.
It feels immensely satisfying to be sat here in 2021, eons after playing Super Stardust HD on PS3, and see just how far Housemarque has come. Offering a visual bullet hell spectacle, a showcase for the DualSense controller and a rewarding sci-fi narrative woven around the roguelike loop, we can say with unflinching confidence that Returnal is the PS5’s best game to date.
