CI Games has announced that the PlayStation 5 version of Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2 has been delayed due to “unforeseen technical issues discovered in the weeks leading up to launch.”
All other versions of the game, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox X/S and PC, will still launch as scheduled on June 4th. “CI Games is very confident with how the game performs on these other platforms, and has a highly experienced team working hard to ensure the PS5 version meets a similarly high standard,” states the press release.
“We could not have foreseen these issues,” adds Tobias Heussner, EP, CI Games. “However, we would like to assure our players that our highly experienced, professional and dedicated team are working hard with the platform holder and engine provider to resolve the problems as soon as feasibly possible, to ensure we can bring the PS5 community the high calibre sniping game they have been waiting for.”
The good news that as a gesture of goodwill the first major DLC pack for the game, which includes a new map and new contracts, will now be free of charge for all players on all platforms, so that’s nice, Xbox owners get something for free due to a PlayStation game being delayed!
It has also been announced that the PS4 version of the game will have a day one patch which will make the game run in 4K, and there will be a free upgrade to the PS5 version when it launches will include enhanced textures and visuals, and faster SSD loading times.
The previous game in the series leant heavily on stealth with open-world sandboxes described as “sniper’s paradises”, and the sequel pushes that further with much larger maps to allow you to take on targets from really, really far away.
The new game is the most expansive in the series to date, with the trailer showing off the new ultra-long range sniping at ranges of over 1000m. There will be five sandbox maps that allow you to take on the missions in a variety of different ways, with unlockable rewards for completing all of the objectives. All of the campaign missions have beenl hand-crafted to ensure that the long-distance sniping works well, but you’ll still have to employ stealth and subterfuge in order to reach the ideal sniping spot.
