Paradox has announced the first major expansion for Crusader Kings 3, their award-winning medieval grand strategy game from 2020. Adding a new court from which you can preside over your kingdom, it will also overhaul the cultural system of the game, while a free update will revise the cultural interface for everyone.
The key addition is a visual representation of your royal court for kings and emperors, letting you display your accumulated relics and trinkets to show off how prestigious your dynasty has become. From here you’ll be able to interact with vassals and courtiers as they come to petition you for a royal judgement.
There will be additional roles in your court to award to people, from food taster through to a court tutor, who can help you learn foreign languages. You might also have more Inspired People appear, who could create great works or craft impressive weapons and jewelry for you.

Beyond this, the expansion will expand the cultural side of the game. You can hybridise culture to blend together the different cultures found in your realm, picking from both. Alternatively, you can split from your former culture using Cultural Divergence, to split off from your traditional culture
The expansion will come alongside a free update that overhauls the culture interface, and more that will be revealed.
This is the first major expansion, coming after the Northern Lord flavour pack earlier in the year, expanding the narrative and gameplay elements surrounding Scandinavian kingdoms. Crusader Kings 3 was one of the critically acclaimed released of 2020, garnering plenty of praise upon its release last September. We wrote in our Crusader Kings 3 review:
The best way to think of Crusader Kings 3 as a sequel is in terms of its own dynastic gameplay. Sure, Paradox have started from scratch with a new game, but it’s still full of scheming, warring amidst an impressive breadth of cultures and religions. Crusader Kings 3 is an heir that has been born from Crusader Kings 2 and its many expansions, including and improving on so much of what made that game great, but it can still grow and improve in its own right.
