Insomniac Games has shared that Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart’s performance modes will only be available after a day one patch to the game has been installed.
Additionally, at this point in time, we are now able to confirm that the Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart review embargo lifts at 3PM BST (UK time) on Tuesday 8th June. We’ve been playing the game, so make sure to come back for our verdict then!
Players who update #RatchetPS5 on launch day gain access to our Performance & Performance RT Modes.

Per Insomniac’s tweet, once the day one update fir Rift Apart is installed, you will have a trio of graphics and performance options that will be instantly familiar to anyone that has played Marvel’s Spider-Man or Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales on PlayStation 5 – both of which have also come out of Insomniac Games.
Up until this point, we only knew of Fidelity and Performance modes, so Performance RT is new for this game. However, assuming that the graphics options match those found in the Spider-Man games, the three options would target the following, with dynamic resolutions and temporal upscaling to meet the targets:
- Fidelity – 4K at 30fps with ray tracing
- Performance – Upscaled 4K at 60fps without ray tracing
- Performance RT – 1440p at 60fps with ray tracing
We’ll confirm the specifics when we are able to.
Every Ratchet & Clank game ranked from worst to best
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart was announced back at the PlayStation 5 reveal event last year, and immediately set a high bar for what people can expect from Sony’s new console. The game makes extensive use of the PS5’s ray tracing capabilities to add accurate reflections and bounce lighting for more immersive and realistic graphics, taps the DualSense controller for haptic feedback and alt-fire on the adaptive triggers, and most spectacularly, uses the PS5’s SSD to rapidly load in level after level with ultra-high fidelity throughout. It’s a trick that absolutely would not be possible on PS4.
As for the game itself, Ratchet and Clank are ripped into a dimension-hopping adventure triggered by Dr. Nefarious (who else?). Along the way we’ll meet and get to play as Rivet, a mysterious female Lombax from an alternate dimension. We recently met Rivet properly in a 15 minute-long gameplay trailer that revealed her mysterious character and more of the inter-dimensional adventuring of Rift Apart.
