The Battlefield 2042 gameplay reveal trailer has dropped at the Xbox & Bethesda E3 2021 showcase. Filled with sensational “Only in Battlefield” moments that DICE love to go on about, it’s one that’s sure to appeal to many a Battlefield fan. Check it out:
Battlefield 2042 will be coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, Xbox One and PC, it will be out on 22nd October 2021. An Open Beta will be held before release, with early access for those pre-ordering the game.
After almost a year of build up, Battlefield 2042 was finally announced earlier this week, the name giving away that the game is set in the modern/near-future day in the year 2042, in a world transformed by climate change and featuring ‘no-pats’ soldiers fighting a proxy war between the USA and Russia.
The headline feature is the jump up to 128-player battles in the All-Out Warfare game modes of Conquest and Breakthrough, however this only applies for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are limited to 64 players.
There is also another game mode called Hazard Zone that’s being teased, which is definitely not a battle royale, and a third experience developed by DICE LA that will be revealed at EA Play Live in July. One thing that’s completely missing is a single player campaign.
Preview: Battlefield 2042 has huge 128-player battles, but it’s much more than that
Instead, DICE has cooked up AI bots for multiplayer and multiplayer-adjacent modes. You will be able to play All-Out Warfare with bots, whether going in solo or gathering a group together for co-op. Not only that, but bots will be included in the regular multiplayer, making up the numbers if player counts on a particular server dip. This should help make low player count servers more attractive on the server lists.
DICE say they will continue to tell a story through the live service, with seasons of content supported by a battle pass – four in the game’s first year. However, the paid battle pass will only ever have cosmetics, with all gameplay elements available to unlock for free.
