The next The Crew game, codenamed Project Orlando, has leaked

Project Orlando

Over the weekend the next title in Ubisoft’s The Crew series leaked out, codenamed Project Orlando. Some screens were posted on Imgur but were quickly removed, presumably by Ubisoft.

Rather than squashing the entire USA in to one rather condensed map it seems the game, despite being codenamed Orlando, is heading to Hawai‘i.

Conveniently for you lot I know the roads of Hawaii rather well so I can tell you there’s scope for some mind blowing visuals but there is no way it’s going to be totally accurate. Oʻahu only has four motorways and they’re all rather short, Molokaʻi has just one main road, Maui just has a road going round the island and Big Island isn’t much better.

Check out this map of Maui, as you can see not much scope for racing. You can also see another problem with Hawai‘ian roads; Most of them are not straight, and there many roads which curve and bend every few metres. Check the road at the top of the map to see what I mean.

Industry insider Tom Henderson has tweeted “From what I’ve heard is that they weren’t happy with The Crew 2 are and just overhauling everything.” The datamine references “a breathless crew vs crew race, up to 100 players, with vehicles switch along 3 different sections”.

To back up the leak, Project Orlando was listed in the datamine of Nvidia’s GeForce Now service. Nvidia released a statement saying the list was “speculative titles” but what are the chances of someone making up Project Orlando for Ubisoft and it turning out to be real? None at all, and to back it up, Ubisoft issued a takedown notice of the datamine.

If Project Orlando is real, which it seems to be, then perhaps the rest of the games on that Nvidia leak are real as well. The include God of War and Returnal for PC, and the new Bioshock game for next year.

  1. The last The Crew game was the whole of mainland America so having just Hawaii would be a bit small, even if it’s all the islands.
Test Drive Unlimited was just the island of Oʻahu which worked pretty well but that’s a different game to The Crew.
