Crytek has announced that a Hunt: Showdown live action series in the works. It will be coming exclusively to streaming platform Binge, which will launch for free some time in 2022.
The twisted survival shooter originally launched in early 2018 and has continued to garner popularity. Hunt: Showdown offers an inventive spin on the battle royale formula as it pits squads of bounty hunters against each other in a race to kill monsters and extract their essence.
What fans love most about Hunt: Showdown is its eerie 19th century setting, each match rife with tense skirmishes and standoffs.
“We have always known that Hunt: Showdown would look great as a live-action series,” said Avni Yerli, Crytek founder and joint CEO. “The world is dark, gritty, and immersive, and there is so much potential for many great stories to be told. We can’t wait to see what the team at Binge can create.”
It will be interesting to see how the showrunners at Binge adapt this multiplayer shooter into a horror series. Hunt: Showdown has a rich well of lore, but you need to do some digging to find it. The stories that matter most are those that unspool as bounty hunters clash in the murky maze of the Bayou. Hopefully the writers will be able to capture the game’s essence.
Having wrapped its Harvest Halloween event, Hunt: Showdown is preparing for the eagerly await 1.7 game update. It includes an array of new tweaks, features, and balances, including an option to reconnect to matches.
In our review of Hunt: Showdown we praised the sleeper hit for its sense of atmosphere and risk/reward gameplay despite taking a while for the game to click:
I’ll admit I wasn’t keen on Hunt: Showdown to start with, but after the first few matches I realised there’s something special here. This is an unusual entry in a genre ruled by far snappier shooters, and it takes time to get your head around Crytek’s clever twist on the formula. Stick with it and you’ll be rewarded with a uniquely engrossing multiplayer experience.
