What We Played #535 – Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Rainbow Six Extraction & Windjammers 2

Windjammers 2 Header

It’s Friday, or as it’s known in our house, Pokémon Legends: Arceus day. My two boys – and let’s face it, me – are going to spend the weekend with the latest pocket monster game researching the creatures to the Nth degree. It will undoubtedly be Monday far too soon. Prior to today’s expeditions, I’ve been playing Fantasian, Lost Odyssey, Pokemon Shield, Lost Ark, Card Fighters Clash, and Pupperazi.

Aran has played more Far Cry 6. He says, “I may try and get as close to completion as possible. I’m just enjoying exploring the islands and sending my angry rooster Chicarron into battle.” Nick P is also still playing Far Cry 6. He tells us, “I think I’m nearly done, but still a lot of stuff left to do. Also, there’s another event on in Dead by Daylight so smashing that out to earn some rewards.”

Jim has been playing a lot of Rainbow Six Extraction this week, and you can read his review now! He hasn’t just been working on that though, saying, “Having played countless rounds of Rainbow Six Siege, I get where some of the trepidation surrounding this spin-off comes from. Instead of going down the easy route of beefing up the series’ Terrorist Hunt mode, we see elite operators band together to repel an encroaching alien threat. Despite some annoying shortcomings, I keep going back for more, levelling up my main characters and pushing towards that tough endgame content.

“After trying and failing on several attempts, I’ve finally managed to beat Super Mario Odyssey. Each kingdom has been a delight to hop my way around, possessing NPCs and objects with Mario’s hat with some very satisfying exploration. I’ll likely go back and grab a few more Moons before moving onto my next big Switch game – Pokemon Legends: Arceus.”

We’ve talked a lot about Arceus already, but who did our review? It was Nic B who was infused with a childhood glee at the many great changes and improvements to the long-running series.

Steve has been playing Bloodborne. A lot of it. His review? “Unseen Village can suck my duck (not a typo).” Meanwhile, Gamoc has been getting Dwarfy in Deep Rock Galactic, “which is still excellent”. He’s also been playing UFC 4. In fact, he renewed his EA Play subscription so he could continue playing the day before it was announced as coming to PS+. This did not please him.

Tuffcub finished Horizon Zero Dawn on New Game + on Super Hard, and can now confirm that he has Horizon Forbidden West! His review will go live at 08:01 AM GMT (London) on Feb 14th.

Is he playing it yet? Unfortunately, we can only confirm that he’s able to view the start screen.

Ade played – and mostly lost! – a whole lot of online matches of Windjammers 2 to finish off his review. “I also finished the story mode of Spider-Man: Miles Morales, contemplated New Game Plus, but frankly there were far too many missions involving following pipes – hardly a Super Hero activity if you ask me. So I’ve returned to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and been amazed at how much more content has been added to an already massive game!”

Miguel played Aliens Fireteam and beat the main campaign! He also played a lot of Deep Rock Galactic, a little Valorant, and beat Halo Infinite!

And finally, Tef has been juggling a couple things, but has mainly been tucking into the limited time game mode of Halo Infinite, which blends together Slayer and Elimination in a compelling way. He’s also finally got round to restarting the campaign, having previously only played the opening few hours when we had the review build last December. He’s still a way off seeing something new…

Now then, what have you played this fine week?

  1. Think I’m about done with Ghost of Tsushima now. Finished off everything in the main game and Iki Island, then decided the Legends mode is a bit shit really. But the main game is great.

And the same as last week, lots of Deep Rock Galactic, which is still stupid amounts of fun. And Snowrunner, which is just evil and frustrating and stupid amounts of fun also.

And a Platinum for Outriders I picked up in the January sale. A fairly decent, solid game I’d recommend on sale. Nothing particularly original. Shoot lots of things. Pick up lots of loot. Less about doing damage, and more about combining your skills to keep yourself alive, which I thought was reasonably interesting.

And finally, remaster time. Mass Effect Legendary Edition (from EA Play) is well done, if the first game is showing it’s age a bit.

And managed a quick look at the PS5 Uncharted. Yes, the performance mode is probably the way to go (1440 upscaled to 4k60?). But it does make the cutscenes look a bit odd at 60fps. Great for the gameplay, not so great elsewhere. And repeatedly mashing a button to do something needs to stop being a thing. But it does look even better than I remember it being on the PS4.

  2. Mostly Dreams these past few weeks but i also started Green Hell. Quit the tutorial half way through as the crafting mechanics are very poorly explained and i was unable to get a fire going. After checking a few vids online i determined that the poorly explained mechanics was a feature of the game and noting how the crafting actually worked i restarted the tutorial, which incidently is the opening section of the game. Upon completing the tutorial there was a cutscene and then i was spat out to the main menu. I now had to start the game proper from the very beginning again as the tutorial does not allow you to carry on.. WTH!!
So i completed the opening section for the third time and soon went insane and died several times before the first day had ended.
I’m not quitting yet though! :D

  3. More ME:Andromeda. Although at some 37 hours playtime and only 41% complete it feels like I’m going to be at it for a long time yet… I’m not doing every mission but probably doing far more side stuff than I need to.

  4. I’m still playing mostly Days Gone, the story is ok and larger hordes are quite scary. The game also got slightly buggier, which is sometimes funny (a full horde let me kill it off without coming after me), sometimes less so (falling through a bridge and dying).
I want to finish the storyline, hope I get through it soon, most of these games are just way too long.

  5. I did get the platinum in Guardians of the Galaxy. I also got the platinum in A Day Without Me, Deponia and Lost Grimoires 3. I finally, finally beat the Valkyrie Queen for the God of War platinum. I’m currently working on the drinking game part of Watch Dogs and Erica. I suspect Erica might be the easier of the two, but I’m really not sure about the app control system they’ve implemented for it. I’m not saying it’s a bad idea exactly or wasn’t worth trying but I much prefer normal controller inputs.

  6. I can’t stop playing Arceus, it really is the gameplay evolution that Pokemon needed. Absolutely loving it
