Polish studio 11bit Studios has announced that all of the profits this week from the sales of This War of Mine and its DLCs will be donated to the Ukrainian Red Cross. This is in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine which fully begun in the early hours of this morning, igniting a full scale war in Europe. The majority of the world has condemned the actions of Vladimir Putin, and the Russian government with many nations placing sanctions on the country. In a statement, 11bit Studios wrote:
“Today Russian military forces attacked the free country of Ukraine – our neighbours. As a Polish game studio and creators of the globally recognised anti-war game, This War of Mine – one that directly speaks about the suffering and misery of civilians who are affected by war- we’d like to hereby announce our company statement: we stand against the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Just words will be empty without action though, and the timing is crucial, so the act is as follows: for the next seven days, all profits from This War Is Mine, all its DLC, on all stores and all platforms will go to a special fund. A week from now, this money will be donated to the Ukrainian Red Cross to directly support the victims of war in Ukraine. Let this message resonate with everything you know about this war and how war kills people, devastates their lives and homes. Let us – players and developers together – do everything we can to support victims of war in Ukraine.”
In our review for This War of Mine: The Little Ones, I wrote: “This War Of Mine: The Little Ones is more than a game, and can be considered one of the most effective anti-war tools ever created. This is not a game you play for fun or to unwind, and the addition of children for the console release makes it even more poignant, as the realisation dawns that all over the world people are living through these hellish conditions. This War of Mine: The Little Ones doesn’t just drive home how desperate people get in times of war, but also makes you take note of how lucky so many of us are to live in a more stable place.”

My thoughts are with the people in Ukraine, who suffer from this stupid war. I very much hope this makes more Russians wake up and realise what type of leader they have, so that change can come at some point from within. Even Putin cannot lock up half his own people.

I literally started playing this a few days ago and have to say, despite its premise, it is a very good game.
I’ve been sitting playing it and, even before the unjust invasion, thinking of the current situation in Ukraine and how awful it must be, and how lucky I am to live in a generally trouble free country. It really does make you appreciate what you’ve got.
I started playing it on PS Now, but I guess now I’ll purchase it in order to support the developer and the red cross.
