The Crew 2 PS5 and Xbox Series X|S upgrade coming in Year 5

The Crew 2 is getting a free next-gen upgrade on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S later this year, Ubisoft and Ivory Tower have confirmed.

Having announced its plans for The Crew 2 Year 5, its French developer says that a free boost for Sony and Microsoft’s new consoles is currently in the works.

The best racing games to play in 2022

Right now, the upgrade is in its the testing phase with a planned release for July 2022 on both PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. This will improve the racer by offering 60FPS – like For Honor’s performance upgrade, we’re guessing this won’t require players to download a separate, native client for the game.

Core improvements are being made elsewhere, including the sky/weather visuals as well as vehicle handling. Of course, there’s also a glut of upcoming content that will be free for all racers as part of The Crew 2 Year 5 with new events, cars, and rewards.

We scored the racing sequel a 7/10 in our The Crew 2 review:

The Crew 2 is a fun game in a lot of ways, but lacklustre in others. For every enjoyable event there may be another that is frustrating or simply a little boring. The open world can be great to explore, but thanks to being able to fast travel to every event you don’t ever actually need to physically cross the USA. Ubisoft should be commended for really taking a risk with by adding so much and taking proceedings less seriously, but while this is a good arcade racer it still doesn’t quite rank among the best.

We’ve seen Ubisoft roll out extensive post-launch support for a number of its recent hits from the last console cycle. The aforementioned For Honor is about to enter Year 6 with new playable characters and the introduction of crossplay. Meanwhile, Rainbow Six Siege is prepping for Year 7 with more maps, modes, and deadly Operators.

  1. Can we stop calling these things a “next-gen upgrade”? Because (a) the PS5 is current-gen now, and (b) it’s an upgrade to the existing PS4 last-gen version that just happens to take advantage of the PS5 power.

On the plus side, it does mean less precious SSD space taken up. But the downside is you don’t get any real PS5 features.

  2. Its so funny that the CREW and have support from the devs and A game like NEED FOR SPEED HEAT gets ignored
