Bethesda have posted a short video introducing “your favourite new companion”, Vasco. Vasco is an expeditionary robot that accompanies the player in Starfield but there will be other companions. His primary role is “peaceful” but the robot does have defensive capabilities should the need arise.
Bethesda’s highly anticipated sci-fi RPG coming exclusively to Xbox Series X|S and Windows 10 PCs on 11th November 2022 but so far the game has been kept under wraps. The game steps hundreds of years into our future, casting you as a part of Constellation and a journey of interstellar discovery. This is “The beginning of Humanity’s final journey”, according to the first reveal trailer.
Last year three locations from the game were revealed. First, New Atlantis, the capital of the United Colonies, which is the most powerful and well established military force in the game. The city (and the starport that is pictured) is a melting pot of different races, ethnicities and cultures.
Akila is then the capital of the Freestar Collective, and immediately has a very different tone. If New Atlantis is akin to Star Wars’ Coruscant, then Akila looks much more like Tatooine. The Freestar Collective is a confederation of three different star systems, with a firm belief in the sanctity of personal freedom and individuality.
And finally, there’s the pleasure city of Neon. It started as a fishing platform built by the Xenofresh Corporation, but their fishing plans changed when they discovered a fish with psychotropic properties and switched to selling drugs instead of fish. The drug Aurora is only legal on Neon, though, with people coming to the city specifically to get high.
Other than that the only other thing we know about the game is that you will be able to touch the coffee cups.
Starfield was announced back at E3 2018, as Bethesda were surprisingly forthcoming about their future plans. Riding the reveal of the multiplayer-focussed Fallout 76, the company sought to reassure fans that, yes, they were still working on big single-player experiences. They announced both Starfield, a sweeping sci-fi RPG, and The Elder Scrolls VI, years and years before the games would ever see the light of day.

It’s releasing this year isn’t it….? I know it’s been in development for a few years but they sure are playing their cards close to their chest, all of the presentations so far seem like the sort of stuff you would talk about at the beginning of development instead of showing us anything we can actually get excited about.
