Writing about the announcement, Cellar Door said, “Rogue Legacy 2 is finally reaching v1.0 and we couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. Our goal for Rogue Legacy 2 was always to make ‘Rogue Legacy 3’ because we didn’t want to settle for just more. It had to stay true to the original, but also stand on its own as something new.
“After nearly four years of development, bringing it to the fans is the final step in this long journey, and we hope they find it as special as we do.”

Compared to the original, Rogue Legacy 2 comes with a lovely new 2.5D art style, its genealogical take on the roguelike genre enhanced with new weapons, classes, abilities, biomes and more. As your characters die, you can earn persistent upgrades that pass down to your heirs, but each child having unique traits and abilities of their own.
It’s been a whopping nine years since Cellar Door Games released the original Rogue Legacy for PC, the game reviewing well and gathering fans before the deluge of similar roguelites and soulsborne inspired games arrived. In our old Indie Focus feature. Gareth said of the game:
“Rogue Legacy is harsh and unforgiving, but it’s in a ‘losing is fun’ way. You’ll die over and over and the game will keep a backlog of all the characters you’ve lost, just so you can see how many have fallen as you have levelled up, upgraded, improved and finally beaten all the bosses, only to unlock New Game+ immediately afterwards.”
