With Halo Infinite Season 2 just a couple weeks away, 343 Industries has revealed a trio of game modes that will be added to the game, including a real fan favourite. King of the Hill, Land Grab and Last Spartan Standing will all be added to Halo Infinite multiplayer when Season 2 launches for PC and Xbox on 5th May.
King of the Hill brings back the first person shooter classic game mode with a single control point that two teams battle over, however this will come with a twist. When a player enters the hill and captures it they will earn 1 point per second toward filling a Control Meter. When the Capture Bar is full, they score a game mode point by winning that particular hill and a new hill spawns somewhere else on the map. Not only that, but Hill ownership can decay back to neutral when unoccupied.
The classic KOTH style with the hill on a simple timer can still be found within Custom Games.
Land Grab is a new mix on Control style game modes. There are three neutral zones on the map at the start of a round and capturing a zone locks it and gives a team a point. Once all three zones have been captured and three points awarded, they will despawn and three new neutral zones spawn in. The winning team is the first to score 11 points.
Finally Last Spartan Standing brings a mini Battle Royale to the game – in truth, there’s been plenty of last man standing modes since the mid-90s. 12 players spawn in on Big Team Battle maps with a confined loadout and five respawns to run through. Getting a kill lets you upgrade to a different weapon, but once you run out of lives, you’re done. At that point you can spectate or quit out (without penalty) and start matchmaking again.
After a long and frustrating silence over what the game’s future holds, 343 Industries has been quite quickly revealing the content that will be added to Halo Infinite with Season 2. There’s new armour cores to unlock and customise, a pair of new maps called Catalyst and Breaker, and now we have some new game modes. Keep an eye out for more details, perhaps digging into the new battle pass, in the last few days and weeks before Season 2’s launch.
