Blizzard will be revealing their long rumoured Warcraft mobile game next week on 3rd May 2022. The live stream will be going live at 10AM PT – 6PM UK time.
The stream will be hosted on a bespoke Blizzard website here.
In a brief teaser blog post, Blizzard write, “The Warcraft universe continues to capture imaginations across the globe with enlightening experiences and immersive gameplay, that are the foundation for World of Warcraft and Hearthstone. We are happy to present a new mobile game for the heroes of Azeroth looking to play on the go, and we can’t wait to get it into your hands.”
The game has been “designed from the ground up for mobile devices,” but there’s pretty much nothing else to go on beyond that. This could be a relatively ‘core’ experience, an RPG or strategy game set in the Blizzard universe, or it could be a quirky spin off of some kind, similar to the popular digital card game Hearthstone. Perhaps they’re shooting for a Pokémon Go-style augmented reality game that can really only be done with mobile? Either way, expect an experience that you can dip in and out of, suited to the kinds of gaming that people generally get up to on phones.
It’s been a busy few weeks and months for Blizzard. Earlier this week they announced a release date for Diablo Immortal – well, an open beta date – for June, and also revealed that the controversial mobile-first Diablo game would also now be coming to PC. The next World of Warcraft expansion has been revealed, and company has also pivoted the development of Overwatch 2, so that the semi-sequel has been split up, the overhauled PvP coming out separately from the narrative led PvE. Overwatch 2’s closed beta kicked off this week for PC players.]
Oh, and there’s the continued Activision Blizzard acquisition by Microsoft, which was just approved by shareholders.
