GT7 update will add three new cars this week, but what are they?

A fresh update is coming to Gran Turismo 7 this week – likely on Thursday morning – with series creator Kazunori Yamauchi tweeting to tease a trio of new cars which will be added for free.

As is pretty traditional for Kaz, he posted the silhouettes of the three cars to his Twitter, which has got car nuts and internet sleuths hastily working to figure out what they could be.

Two of the three cars are easy to figure out, with the Toyota GR010 an entry in the Le Mans Hypercar (LMH) category. This is the tip-top endurance racing category in the world, albeit one that has been created to reign in some of the expenses of the LMP1 class that went before it. There’s cost caps and aerodynamic constraints to consider, but Toyota has been the class of the endurance racing field, after long-time rivals Audi and Porsche quit a few years ago. The GR010 won the Le Mans 24h and the FIA World Endurance Championship at the first time of asking, and will be seeking to do it all over again this year.

The second car, in the bottom right corner, seems to be the GoPro Rampage 1970 Camaro, which won the Gran Turismo Award at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in 2014. Having won the award, Polyphony was obliged to make a digital counterpart for its games, but it’s only now that it’s getting the treatment, despite all the other previous winners already being in GT Sport and GT7.

Finally, the car in the bottom right, is speculated to be a C3-generaion Corvette, but it’s not entirely clear. We’ll know soon enough!

Alongside the three new cars, we can expect Polyphony Digital to add some new race events to show them off, but the bigger demands from fans will be for bug fixes, quality of life improvements – like letting you edit the settings of an online custom lobby, just like you could in every other game since GT5, but can’t in GT7 for reason – and maybe some more fine tuning of the car handling, which has been tweaked in several ways since release.

What are you crossing your fingers for in this GT7 update?

I'm probably wearing toe shoes, and there's nothing you can do to stop me!

  1. I’m crossing my fingers for a fix for the final race of the Human Comedy mission at Lake Maggiore. Three times I’ve got to 45 – 50 minutes and the game has froze, the first and second times I wasn’t too peeed off as I was nowhere near winning but in the third I was in second pulling away from third with first only ten seconds ahead but they would pit before the end. Arraaagh!

  2. I haven’t got a clue what the bottom-left car is!
