Cult Korean horror game, White Day: A Labyrinth Named School, will launch later this year on PS5, according to an online listing.
This news comes via US retailer, Target, which gives a September 30, 2022 release date for the creepy first person mystery game. Just a few days ago publisher PQube dropped a White Day related teaser on its YouTube channel, suggesting a potential re-release, update, or new content.
The Target listing doesn’t give extensive details on what’s been changed for the PS5 version. However, we do know that the Korean horror game will land on Sony’s latest console with a glut of DLC costumes to dress up in. Now running on improved hardware, there’s a good chance we’ll see some technical and visual improvements, too. If anything, we should at least expect faster loading times.
If the name sounds familiar, White Day: A Labyrinth Named School was released in 2017 for PS4 and PC, having previously been available on mobile. More of a remake than a traditional remaster, it’s based on the 2001 titles of the same name, casting players as a student who unearths a menagerie of dark secrets surrounding Yeondu High School.
Despite its archaic gameplay and strange design choices there’s definitely an allure to White Day, PQube no doubt hoping the PS5 re-release will help build its cult following.
In our White Day review on PS4, we scored the game a 4/10, saying:
White Day has plenty of problems though it’s easy to see why some may see it as a cult hit and why its creators wanted a revival. It’s a clunky, vague, and often frustrating game yet, at the same time, there’s this great setting and some clever puzzles at work. It’s just a shame that, in order to get to the good stuff, you’re almost guaranteed to face some hardship.
Elsewhere from the world of horror, Green Hell VR has a release date, and we’ve been learning more about The Callisto Protocol, a spiritual successor to Dead Space.
