Hit Viking survival game Valheim will be coming to Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One in spring 2023, Coffee Stain and Iron Gate have announced, and it will be joining the ever-changing Xbox Game Pass catalogue as it does so. Before then, the game will launch on the Microsoft Store and join the PC Game Pass library in autumn 2022.

One great feature that’s been confirmed is that Valheim will have full crossplay support at launch. Whether you’lre playing on Steam, the Microsoft Store or Xbox, you’ll be able to build, fight and survive together in the Norse afterlife.

Iron Gate are still hard at work on adding content and fleshing out their game experience as it aims to exit Early Access later this year. so they’ve turned to developers Piktiv and Fishlabs have been enlisted to help port the game to the Microsoft Store and handle the Xbox port.

“We’re beyond delighted to see the world of Valheim and our amazing community open up to even more people, and let our PC Vikings team up with their console shield brothers and sisters in the near future.” said Henrik Törnqvist, co-founder of Iron Gate. “None of this would be possible without the incredible teams at Piktiv and Fishlabs who are continuing to work tirelessly on the Microsoft Store and Xbox ports, enabling us to focus on the Mistlands update and our exciting journey through Early Access.”

Valheim originally launched back in February 2021 and quickly went on to become one of the biggest breakout hits of the year. Its lo-fi visuals, Viking theme, and refined survival gameplay created the perfect storm, no doubt fuelled by the increasing boredom of gamers stuck in lockdown. Over ten million copies have been sold in the game’s first year, and it’s remained popular with regular content drops. Later this year, players can look forward to the Mistlands biome that’s set to arrive in Q3.
