Nintendo has taken Nintendo Switch Sports’ servers offline while they investigate a game crashing that has emerged after the release of an update earlier this week. The rollout of version 1.2.1 has also been suspended and a new update will likely be prepared to address the issue.
The bug affects both online and offline game modes causing the game to unexpectedly close during loading. As an additional cautionary measure, save data backups for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers have also been disabled for this game.
Whilst we investigate to find a solution, #NintendoSwitchSports servers will be temporarily taken offline and online play will not be available during this time. Save data backup is also temporarily suspended. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience.

Looking at the Switch Sports version 1.2.1 patch notes, the update was a minor patch that was primarily about preventing disruptive behaviours online. This specifically targeted online play and could suspend players for “fraudulent behaviour such as save data manipulation.”
Hopefully Nintendo are able to resolve the issues quickly, though given that they took these measures on Friday, it’s unlikely we’ll see things resolved until next week.
