The Gran Turismo movie adds Ginger Spice to the cast

Gran Turismo 7 September Update Header

The Gran Turismo movie is currently being filmed Hungary with District 9’s Neill Blomkamp in the directing chair and news reaches us of some last minute cast additions including Ginger Spice herself, Geri Halliwell-Horner.

It would be fair to say she’s not the most prolific actor having appeared in Spiceworld The Movie in which she plays herself, and Jason Statham action film Crank: High Voltage in which she took on the role of Karen Chelios. However, she does have a connection to the racing world as her husband is Christian Horner, the head of Red Bull’s Formula One team.

In the Gran Turismo movie she will be playing the mother of the lead character, who is played by Archie Madekwe. Also joining the cast is Djimon Hounsou, Daniel Puig, Josha Stradowski and Thomas Kretschmann, with Hounsou playing Ginger’s husband. They join David Harbour and Orlando Bloom who were cast earlier in the year.

The plot of the Gran Turismo movie was revealed back in June with it being, “Based on a true story, the film is the ultimate wish fulfilment tale of a teenage Gran Turismo player whose gaming skills won a series of Nissan competitions to become an actual professional race car driver.”

Presumably this will be the Nissan PlayStation GT Academy which was created in June 2008 to provided an alternative route into professional motor racing for people. There have been a number of graduates from the academy who have gone to race professionally but we don’t know which one the movie will follow. It could be Jann Mardenborough from the UK who was named as one of the 50 most marketable athletes in the world by Sports Pro Media.

Sony has being working on adapting a lot of its properties for movies and television. Uncharted, starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg has been one of the biggest so far. Ratchet and Clank were also given the movie treatment and on the horizon are films and TV shows for The Last of Us, Twisted Metal, Horizon Zero Dawn, Ghost of Tsushima and God of War.
