Amnesia: The Bunker is the brand new entry to Frictional Games’ Amnesia series, and it is coming to PC, PlayStation consoles, and Xbox consoles in 2023. Amnesia: The Bunker will be a change for the series in that it will have a semi open world, and very few scripted events. Players will have much more agency with their players, while armed with a pistol and a loud dynamo flashlight.
The setting, as you would guess from the title, is a bunker. Specifically, a World War One bunker as a French soldier who has amnesia and chased by a mysterious creature. Players will be able to approach situations in various ways, and they will have to use their own wits to figure out how to solve the puzzles that Amnesia: The Bunker will throw at them. The key features have been listed as follows:
- Player choice – emergent gameplay in a sandbox horror survival experience
- Unscripted environment – objects, threats, and resources, change in every playthrough
- Adaptive horrid threats – an ever-present gruesome creature that stalks the player.
- Tactile immersion – all-new levels of interaction with the world through puzzle-solving and tool handling
- Absorbing yet terrifying tale – experience hell on earth in a fictional appalling story
- Engrossing atmosphere and tension – enhanced lighting effects and carefully designed sound effects for a real horror experience.
The last Amnesia game was Amnesia: Rebirth. In our review, Steve said, “Amnesia: Rebirth is an excellent narrative experience with some genuinely taxing environmental puzzles and effective sense of atmosphere. What really got under my skin, was the story being told of grief, loss, panic, and desperation. Playing as the pregnant Tasi and vicariously experiencing her own growing horror is something that will stick with me for a long while, not least because this game manages to be so focused on a woman’s body without any hint of sexualisation or objectification. For this, if for nothing else, Amnesia: Rebirth is a groundbreaking title in gaming horror.”
