Harmonix has announced that they are sunsetting the live servers for their DJ game FUSER, and delisting the title from online stores on 19th December 2022. Offline play will remain and access to DLC will also be retained for those who have already purchased any extra tracks.
The statement on Harmonix’s website reads:
We want to thank you for mixing with us. On December 19, we will be disabling FUSER’s live services and all sales of the game, as well as its DLC. Players who already own FUSER will still be able to play the Campaign and Quick Play with any DLC they have already acquired.
Thank you again for your support and for all the amazing mixes over the years.
Fuser was another innovative twist on the rhythm action music genre from Harmonix. Released in 2020, it put you in the shoes of a DJ looking to blend together different tracks and keep a giant festival crowd amped up. In some ways it was an evolution of the ideas Harmonix toyed with in their mobile musical card game Dropmix.
Arguably, flicking the power switch on the servers will have no impact on the game’s audience at all. While reviewing the game in late 2020, Tuffcub didn’t find a single sole to play with online, despite trying for some eight weeks! I doubt that’s improved in the two years since…
In our Fuser review, Tuff said, “Fuser is great party game and there’s plenty of fun to be had going through the campaign. The track selection is far too eclectic, a DJ playing thumping house tunes would not have Dolly Parton on hand to mix in but you can do that in Fusers and the results are predictably terrible. A more refined selection of music would have better, grouped and locked so you can play a disco set, pop set, or whatever. It’s a shame the multiplayer is inaccessible for new players but hopefully they can patch that out.”
