Update: A new trailer during The Game Awards confirmed the Forspoken trailer, which is out now on PlayStation 5.

The original story follows.

A slip up by PlayStation Japan’s Twitter team has revealed that a demo for the upcoming action RPG Forspoken is on the way for PlayStation 5. This could be announced during tonight’s The Game Awards show, or during Square Enix’s own Forspoken gameplay reveal later on 9th December.

Announced as Project Athia during the PlayStation 5 reveal, the game is a PS5 and PC exclusive, making use of modern gaming tech and the PS5 SSD in particular to help push a wide open world that you can traverse at high speed. Forspoken will be a PS5 exclusive for 2 years after its 24th January 2023 release.

The game follows Frey, a New York native who’s been ripped to a fantasy realm of Athia and quickly gains new magical powers that she needs to wield in order to survive, while also fighting back against the Tantas and the corrupting energy called the Break.

A demo for Forspoken might have a bit of heavy lifting to do after the game was widely mocked for the tone of some previous trailers. Frey’s dialogue during the most recent of these drew a fair bit of derision, but we’ll have to see how that tone might hold up in the wider context of the game or, indeed, a demo for the game.
