PS Plus Extra & Premium January library update – Back 4 Blood, DMC5 & more

Devil May Cry 5 Header

Sony has announced the Playstation Plus game catalogue update for January 2023, with a whole host of games joining the library of games available for PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium.

Headlining the PS5 and PS4 games joining the service is the co-op zombie shooting of Back 4 Blood, the excellent anime fighting game Dragon Ball FighterZ, and then you’ve got the sublime Devil May Cry 5, with both the Special Edition for PS5 and original release for PS4. While a little light on big blockbusters, there’s some great games to dive into here.

Update: Sony has removed Sayonara Wild Hearts from the list, stating that it was included in error.

And Sony’s also ramping things up a little bit on the PS Plus Premium library of retro classics, adding three good old PS1 games to the collection. These include Syphon Filter 3, Hot Shots Golf 2 (better known as Everybody’s Golf 2 round here), and then there’s Star Wars Demolition for some vehicular combat in everyone’s favourite sci fi film universe (Trekkies excluding).

Below is the full list of games coming to PS Plus this month.

What are the other PS Plus Free Monthly Games in January?

Also included each month alongside the PS Plus Extra and Premium catalogue updates are the free games as part of PlayStation Plus Essential service. It’s a pretty good month, with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order headlining the selection. Here’s the full PS Plus Essential line up.

What actually is PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium?

The PlayStation Plus relaunch rolled out around the world in June 2022, transforming the PS Plus we once knew into a three tiered subscription service that bundles in and expands what was once PlayStation Now. The classic PS Plus is now called PS Plus Essential, giving access to online multiplayer gaming, cloud save backups, exclusive offers and at least 2 free monthly games. PS Plus Extra then adds a catalogue of PS4 and PS5 games into the mix, while PS Plus Deluxe and Premium (depending on your region) adds older PS2, PS1 and PSP game emulation, and game streaming for PS3 and other titles.

Sony has now established a fortnightly rhythm with the PS Plus monthly games for all subscribers rolling out on the first Tuesday of each month, before a library update for the Game Catalogue comes in the middle of the month two weeks later.
