Skydance Interactive has announced that The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners will be getting an upgrade for PlayStation VR 2 on 21st March 2023, joining the launch window line up of over 30 games for the launch window of Sony’s new virtual reality headset. Best of all, the upgrade will be free for all owners of the game on the original PSVR.
Update: It’s been clarified that the PSVR 2 upgrade will be a mixture of paid and free. Owners of the Tourist Edition or with the Tourist Edition as DLC will be eligible for the free upgrade, while the standard edition that was bundled in PS Plus in November 2021 will be a paid upgrade.
Not only that, but if you got The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners when it was available as part of PlayStation Plus monthly games, you too will get a free upgrade.
21st March 2023 will not only see the re-release of the original The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners, but also the PC and PSVR 2 launch of The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners – Chapter 2: Retribution. Having previously released for Meta Quest 2 in December, Skydance has enhanced that game with improvements based on community feedback, with all of those enhancements making it to PC and PSVR 2.
The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners released at the start of 2020 for PC VR systems before spreading to lower-powered set ups like Oculus Rift and PlayStation VR. It was immediately popular, showing off how interactive VR worlds could really be. We gave the game a resounding 9/10 in our review. Jason had this to say:
“The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners is an excellent VR game that stands out from a lot of what the medium tends to be associated with. The weight of the combat combined with the constant worry that the undead and the living both bring combine for an incredibly gratifying experience. Throw in crafting, the solid writing and meaningful quests and you’ve got a pretty special game on your hands. This is definitely worth a look if you can stomach more zombies. I mean, kill them, don’t eat them.”
We liked the game so much we ran another feature on it, explaining why The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners is the best PSVR game yet in 2020. It’s since been expanded through free updates, the most recent Aftershock update adding a sizeable 4-6 hours of gameplay set after the end of the main story.
