Marvel SNAP Days of Future Past Season Pass – Is it worth buying?

Marvel SNAP Days of Future Past Nimrod Header

Today, Marvel SNAP is launching its new season, Days of Future Past. Since the game launched last year, developer Second Dinner have introduced a new season each and every month, adding new cards and variants to the fast-paced card game as well as a new season pass. But is the premium Marvel SNAP season pass worth buying, and what rewards are on offer?

If you’ve played any live service or free-to-play game over the past few years then you will be well acquainted with the concept of a battle pass. By playing matches and completing achievement-like challenges, you will earn points and level up this pass, unlocking various in-game rewards as you do so. In Marvel SNAP, this includes card boosters, card variants, credits, gold, and card variants, as well as cosmetic items like titles and profile icons.

The Marvel SNAP season pass has 50 tiers to unlock, though many of the rewards up for grabs will only be available to paying customers who pay roughly £8.99 for premium access. The free rewards aren’t too shabby,  if you’re serious about making progress and filling out your card collection then you will find yourself tempted, especially given the time limit attached to each season. Let’s take a look at what’s included in the Days of Future Past season pass.

Is Days of Future Pass worth buying?

If you take the plunge with premium access and manage to max out the season pass, you’ll unlock these additional rewards:

  • 1 Base Card
  • 6 Card Variants (3 pre-set, 3 random)
  • 900 Gold
  • 300 Credits
  • 230 Boosters
  • 1 Card Back
  • 2 Titles

The Gold value alone (worth roughly £11.99) makes the £8.99 purchase of premium worth it, though you’ll need to hit tier 49 in the process. That said, the real value for many comes from gaining immediate access to this Marvel SNAP season’s featured card, Nimrod.

Like previous cards, they will soon be available to unlock as it enters the series 5 pool, but these are incredibly rare to earn through SNAP’s Collector’s Caches. While you can unlock series 5 cards by spending Collector’s Tokens, this currency is hard to come by, to the extent that Marvel SNAP hosts a weekly exchange called “Token Tuesday”. To get an idea of their monetary value, in the latest Token Tuesday, 800 Tokens could be bought for 850 Gold, with the price for 700 Gold being £9.99. And how many Tokens do you need to unlock Nimrod or any series 5 card? A whopping 6000!

There’s plenty of value packed into the premium season pass, but it will remain largely untapped if you only play casually, ignoring the weekly challenges that help ramp up your season pass level. Some will argue that its value is slightly diminished when you consider that there’s a new pass every month when other live service games usually stretch their seasons across 2-3 months.
