The Final Fantasy XVI Demo is out, play the prologue and a special battle demo

Square Enix have released a demo of Final Fantasy XVI which you can download right now from the PlayStation Store.

In the Final Fantasy XVI Demo, take control of Clive Rosfield at the start of his epic tale and learn about his ambitions and goals, as he endures a tragic event sending him on a dark and dangerous path of revenge. Completing the prologue allows players to experience a special battle demo which has numerous abilities unlocked, giving them the opportunity to jump into exhilarating battles and test out a wide array of devastating attacks and combos.

There’s not enough heroic characters called Clive, good to see Square Enix representing them.

Along with the Final Fantasy XVI demo there’s also a new trailer called  Ascension, released during the Final Fantasy XVI Pre-Launch Celebration.

In the Ascension trailer, there is a lot more gameplay showing the fast paced nature of the fights players will be taking part in. It also shows a world that is falling apart, one part showing a village destroyed and its inhabitants slaughtered. Clive is also the focus here, but the trailer does give a bit of insight into his relationships with other characters too.

Set in the fantasy world of Valisthea, the landscape is dominated by the gigantic Mothercrystals that feed the people with aether and the ability to use magicks. The Mothercrystals have given rise to different nations and factions, and while they have co-existed in the past, a Blight is now shattering the peace. There are six realms in Valisthea and they are The Grand Duchy of Rosaria, The Holy Empire of Sanbreque, The Kingdom of Waloed, The Dhalmekian Republic, The Iron Kingdom, and The Crystalline Dominion. Each one drawns upon a particular Eikon, which take on the role of summons in FF16. Clive Rosfield is our main protagonist, witnessing his kingdom destroyed and goes on a revenge quest in pursuit of those that wrought this destruction upon them. The game takes place across three distinct periods in Clive’s life – his teens, twenties and thirties – the tale jumping back in a flashback to reveal his earlier life.

Final Fantasy XVI is a PS5 exclusive coming out on 22nd June 2023.
