Exodus will star Matthew McConaughey on another time-warping interstellar adventure

Archetype Entertainment has announced Exodus, a sweeping interstellar RPG that will star Matthew McConaughey in va video game for the first time, and feature some time-altering elements and a focus on repercussions to your actions.

Exodus sees you take on the role of The Traveler, a uniquely powered protagonist who must lead the fight back against the Celestials for mankind. The Celestials are humanity’s greatest threat in a hostile galaxy, and your job is to steal their technology and bring it back to give your race a fighting chance. The one problem with this is that you endure massive amounts of time dilation on missions, where days for you are decades back home, manifesting the repercussions of your choices, successes and failures.

And who would know about time dilation sci fi epics better than Matthew McConaughey? Pretty much no-one. Let’s just hope the story doesn’t lean too heavily in on the Interstellar vibes.

Archetype Enterainment is led by James Ohlen, formerly of BioWare and creative director across their classic Baldur’s Gate games, Neverwinter Nights and Dragon Age: Origins. The studio is built around a core of ex-BioWare developers, so there’s good reason to be excited for what they can create.

Ohlen said, “Exodus introduces an innovative new sci-fi world that forces players to face the consequences of their choices over time. We introduce the player, as the Traveler, to an original sci-fi universe, a world created with an incredible level of detail in collaboration with award-winning sci-fi authors. The gameplay setting and story we created is built around the impact of Time Dilation, a concept I’ve been fascinated with since I was 12 years-old. We use Time Dilation as a catalyst impacting the choices you make in-game that sets in motion events affecting your relationships with your loved ones, and your entire civilization, for generations.”

Exodus is in development for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
