The Knuckles spin-off TV series from the Sonic the Hedgehog movies will debut on 26th April across the Paramount+ streaming service. Check out the new trailer for the six episode season:
The 26th April release is specifically for the US and Canadian Paramount+ audience, with other Paramount+ territories in more… futuristic time zones then getting to tune in on 27th April. A Japanese release is planned for sometime later this year.
Idris Elba’s take on the angriest, punchiest echidna was an instant hit (boom! boom!) when he first appeared in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, thanks to being the more straight-laced character to Sonic and Dr. Robotnik’s hyperactive shenanigans.
The Knuckles TV show will be set between Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3, and will see Knuckles take on with Wade Whipple, one of the secondary characters played by Adam Pally, to teach the police officer the ways of the proud echidna warriors.
There’s also a whole host of guest stars that will include Stockard Channing, Edi Patterson, Rory McCann, Cary Elwes, Christopher Lloyd, Paul Scheer and Rob Huebel. Oh, and Ben Schwartz and Colleen O’Shaughnessey both popped into a recording booth so Sonic and Tails can turn up, and Tika Sumpter as Maddie.
While the tone and pacing of a TV show is very different to a film, we can look back on the second Sonic movie for a rough idea of what we might get. In our review I said of Knuckles, “Knuckles, on the other hand, is a wonderfully gullible simpleton that plays brilliantly alongside the even greater eccentricities of Dr. Robotnik. Now with the shaved head and iconic brushy moustache and some more of his traditional robots, Carrey’s performance is, if anything, even more manic than the first film, while Elba effortlessly handles the comedy inherent in Knuckles’ character. Sure, Elba’s kind of having to channel Drax from the Guardians of the Galaxy, but by the end of the film, Knuckles was getting most of the laughs from the theatre. It bodes well for the Knuckles spin-off TV show.”
