Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons gets two new fighters as free DLC

Punchy pixel game Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons will get an update this April and it brings two new fighters for you to play.  The first, like the best beat ’em characters, has the exceptionally boring name of Jeff. That’s it, just Jeff, not Jeff Dragon or Jeff Shanghai Noodles, just Jeff, although they could have made it even more boring and called him Geoff.

Joining Jeff is Abore, which is as far as I can tell a very unique name and only ever used in Double Dragon. It means to carry or tolerate, but in some Yoruba communities, “Abore” refers to an older male official who assists people with rituals and worship, often with hereditary positions and extensive knowledge of Yoruba rituals. I am unsure if punching street punks in the face is part of that ritual, but if so he is perfectly named.

JEFF
A childhood rival of the Lee brothers, Jeff trained alongside them in the martial art Sōsetsuken. But as his skills lagged behind, jealousy grew. Determined to surpass Billy and Jimmy, Jeff abandoned his noble path and embraced the streets, merging Karate with Sōsetsuken to develop a dangerous, unpredictable fighting style.

ABORE
A massive ex-soldier with a stoic demeanor, Abore fights with raw power and unwavering calm. His incredible strength and resilience have led some to wonder: is he a man, or something more? The quiet brawler offers no answers, only crushing blows.

Maximum Entertainment say that these two are the first of six characters that will be released this year. The game is available on PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4.
