Capcom revealed the major expansion, Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, spreading the game’s wings with a more airborne adventure coming out in 2027.

Ascendance looks to take the monster hunting action up into the air with floating islands and a shift in focus to more flying creatures. There was some neat looking formation flying and attacks from the creatures they battled at once point, and riding your familiar up on air drafts, and more. Would you believe that there’s an elder dragon behind it?

Here’s some press release blurb:

Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance advances the story of the Forbidden Lands as the Expedition Team’s adventure soars to a new locale set amongst the clouds. In the expansion, hunters will explore islands in the sky and wield explosive new abilities that evolve the gameplay and take the hunting action to new heights. The challenge will also rise to a whole new level with the return of Elder Dragons and Master Rank content.

While it has a rough reputation on PC, Monster Hunter Wilds is a fantastic experience on console. In our review, we said, “Monster Hunter Wilds is the best Monster Hunter game we’ve ever had. The best storyline, the best visuals, and changes to the combat that revolutionise the way the game plays. That said, striving for the widest audience yet has dulled some of the series difficulty, and you may have to wait for the toughest parts of Wilds to fully reveal themselves.”
