Capcom has shared the first trailer for Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, the big expansion for the latest entry in their hit monster battling series.

The expansion will launch in 2027 with the appearance of a giant dragon transforming the Forbidden Lands in both the land and the sky, with strange new inky creatures emerging and more.

The Forbidden Land is now being bedevilled by the Elder Dragon Lao-Shan Lung, who emerges with devastating effect on the Madoi Stronghold. As the Expedition Team tries to build their fortress, the skies above Wyveria reveal the Skybound Eyrie, which floats high up in the sky with ancient ruins and its own particular creatures.

These creatures include the pack hunting Araketa, which can create air currents from its wings and coordinate attacks. The trailer also revealed the brand new Elder Dragon Gundoraja, with a snake-like look as it swims through the skies.

Hunters will have some new tricks, including the Boost Bracer equipment, which can introduce new attacks, combos and movements, and the expansion will also bring more abilities for every weapon type

While it has a rough reputation on PC, Monster Hunter Wilds is a fantastic experience on console. In our review, we said, “Monster Hunter Wilds is the best Monster Hunter game we’ve ever had. The best storyline, the best visuals, and changes to the combat that revolutionise the way the game plays. That said, striving for the widest audience yet has dulled some of the series difficulty, and you may have to wait for the toughest parts of Wilds to fully reveal themselves.”
